Just because the US isn't as much of a police state as Cuba doesn't mean it isn't bad. This is the United States of America damn it, the first Union in human history founded under the umbrella of individual liberty (rights, responsibilities, and freedoms). The "Intelligence" agencies knew about this months in advance and decided not to act in order to gain more power in controlling us under the guise of protection from evil terrorists. This is going to continue until we as a people decide enough is enough, though I don't know that many of us, myself included, are willing to give our lives for a cause which is all but lost.
